These families joined forces and created their own custom Sprout Session.  Basically this is equivalent to scheduling a fantastic playdate with your favorite people and Bamboo Photography!  Our Creative Sessions are now fully booked throughout the holiday season, but we’ve left a few dates open for Sprout Sessions.  If you’ve been meaning to schedule portraits of your kiddos, grab some of your favorite people, and get to it! 

On to the beautiful babies!  This little guy was born 3 months early, and has been keeping his mama (and papa) busy ever since.  He’s healthy, adorable, and oh so snuggly, don’t you think?  He definitely has kissable, pinch-able cheeks!

His cousin Miles, decided to make his way into the world on Beau’s original due date.  How cool is that?!  Needless to say, they are going to have a lot of memories growing up together!

When big cousin Nahla stepped onto the scene, she definitely brought her personality!

Life is so amazing.  This is what I realize every time I slow down enough to notice.  We don’t always know what lies ahead and often,  what seems to be a brief crossing of paths, is much, much more.  We don’t know how long or short or often our journeys together will be, or where they will take us.  We don’t know what lies in the hearts of the people we encounter everyday…but sometimes when we least expect it, we find someone who is a kindred spirit and a nourishment for our hearts.  For this, I am grateful, truly truly grateful.

I photographed this family last Fall, and they recently added a new little one to their home!   What a great honor to meet and capture her sweet, little, brand new spirit.  

This little one was such a doll, and I loved her red hair!  They are friends of another client of mine, who I did portraits for this Spring.  They are visiting from the D.C. area, and scheduled in some portrait time while they were up.  I was excited, as this is the first time I’ve actually done my shoot at my office!  We used the terrace first (yes, I have grass on my terrace!) and then headed down the street to the woods for these two shots.  

I really felt connected with these guys, and could tell they had an appreciation of art, good people, and living life simply.  As it turns out, Gwenn is an accomplished artist herself!  She does beautiful paintings, and you should definitely go now and check out her work!

Just a quick peek of this sweet little one.  She was just an angel, and is lookin’ so much like her mama!

I always notice the rhythm of the seasons…and look forward to summertime as a chance to breathe some fresh air of calmness. It gives some much needed space from the hectic demands of the school year and work, and time to gather myself and get ready for a new season of purpose. We just returned from a road trip to New England, where I was able to really connect with nature and with my family.

Everywhere was some kind of beautiful.

This summer marks the beginning of being a parent of a teenager.  Whenever I tell people that I have a teenage son, they are speechless.  I can see their minds tickin’ trying to figure out how that can possibly be!  It’s true!  I’m fortunate that my son is still really sweet at heart, and still loves his mama!

This was amazing, and the picture doesn’t do it justice.  We were at a high elevation here (our trusty 240 wagon, slowly but surely made it up the hill!), and every mountain top gave way to another, and if you looked all the way to the furthest mountain top, it’s a 60 mile view!

I had to share this one for Rachel and Juan, a Baye Fall moose!

This is big…during our trip, Isa turned four!  He’s quite a character.  Fun and silly at times, focused and determined at others.  He wants to strike out on his own and be independent, but also loves to hold hands and not go too far.  He definitely has a will in him to be a leader, but it’s often over-shadowed by his immense shyness when the focus is all on him.  It’s tough being a middle-child. I love to watch how their minds and hearts open and unfold at age four.

So many people have passed in the last couple of weeks, both on the world spectrum, and personally. It’s a real reminder that each day is not promised. “Tomorrow.” How many times have we said we would do things tomorrow, or the day after, or the day after that? I have a very dear uncle that has loved me unconditionally and has been a father figure to me. I always call him for Father’s Day, and honor his presence in my life. This year, I thought of him but was busy on a photography job, and didn’t call him, thinking I’d call him later in the week. Every day I thought of him, but was busy and didn’t call. He passed away suddenly a few days later. I found myself with the great reminder, don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today. I have always thought of this in terms of ‘tasks’, but this now has a new meaning for me, in terms of loved ones. 

One thing that’s really important, especially when someone passes, is having images to remember them by. I encourage you to do what you can to capture your loved ones more often. Whether it’s your children and spouse, or grandparents, siblings, an aunt or uncle, neice, nephew, a dear friend, or a special teacher.  Hire a photographer, dust off your video camera, or pull out that point and shoot and get snuggly, and while you’re thinking of it, don’t put it off! You will be left with some beautiful memories and images to cherish.  Do what you can now, and make sure you give your attention and love to those special people in your life who you might not see everyday.

I found this video and wanted to share it in remembrance of Michael Jackson, and in remembrance of all those we’ve loved and lost.

I know these guys have been waiting for a peek at their photos, so I’m sharing a few to hold them over.  One thing that we really connected on was running a business, while also raising a family.  Check it, they own and operate United Maids of America, a successful commercial and residential cleaning company, all the while keeping up with a busy household, and  maintaining their sanity!  : c)  They were super relaxed to talk to, and bounce business ideas off of, and were just all around good, positive, salt of the earth people.

They had two things that could make any portrait photographer giddy (besides beautiful children), an amazing wardrobe, and they were up for anything!  We started off with a professional meets urban style family portraits.

And thanks to being up for anything, we ended up with an edgy love vibe!  Love it!

Being a visual artist, it really makes a huge difference when my clients trust my artistic vision.  It allows me to really explore the creative process and approach the session with my heart wide open.  This brings a fresh, inspired energy to the session and the portraits.  I know it can be hard because we (including me) often have our preconceived ideas about what a portrait should look like, but when we can let go of that and can flow with the moment, the light, the feelings, the environment…amazing images can happen.  Those are the moments that move me…and I give thanks.
