Bamboo Photography : Soulful Childhood Portraiture

Hello and welcome! My name is Dana Scherer, and I am the person behind Bamboo Photography, a childhood portrait studio based in the Philadelphia region. Photographing children, I am constantly reminded of the delicate and fleeting wonder of childhood and the importance of living each day as fully and as presently as possible. It is my hope to create images that reflect the honest, innocent (and often silly!) nature of childhood, giving us all a small dose of perspective; a reminder and inspiration for living our days a little more connected, thankful, and alive. I am delighted to share my latest images and news with you here on the blog!

——> UPDATE:  With my pregnancy winding down, I am pretty much fully booked for any new sessions between now and November.  If you’re having a newborn, and interested in maternity or newborn portraits, give me a try…I might be able to squeeze in a few of these sessions.  I am also working diligently to catch up on all past sessions.  I appreciate everyone’s kind words and patience during this time, as I did not anticipate how busy I would be, or how much energy being in my 3rd trimester would require!  

My youngest, soon to be the middle child loves to take photos, and he captured this belly shot while out celebrating his 3rd birthday…  He makes his mama proud!

It’s great getting to know young people and learning what interests them. This young lady knows all about birds and plant varieties, and she’s just an all around sweet person!

I am still playing catch up on my sneak peeks…and am finally starting to see the light! Yay!

This age is so full of contemplation and finding one’s place in the world. We played a bit with sun flair on these first two and I LOVE the results.

Can I just say I love photographing Seniors?! I really do. As much as I love chasing around the little cuties, it’s so nice to work with Seniors every once in a while as they are just so crazy cool and stylish, and they totally know how to work it in front of the camera! See?! Gorgeous.

I’m still here…working on images.  Here’s a few from a great session I had in June.  It was fun exploring with these three, they each have their own unique personalities which unfolded as I got to work with them each individually.  Ok…back to work!  :c)

Oh my goodness!  I forgot how this stage of pregnancy feels!  (sore back, swollen feet, uncomfortable in any position…sigh)  In my best attempt to get caught up with my sessions before I experience any further joys of late pregnancy, I’m planning a marathon editing weekend…and I’ll be sharing some of the images I’m working on through out the weekend.  Drop me a comment to keep my spirits up, and my motivation strong…chocolate works too ;c)  Keep an eye out for some peeks of your images too.

These guys, I’m sure, have been waiting patiently to see their sneak peek from their E-Session a few weeks ago… We had a great time despite the heat and the humidity, and got some really awesome shots….and I didn’t make anyone lay down in the grass. (maybe next time!) I’m really psyched about their wedding coming up in the Fall…and all the fun shots we’ll get.

I love when clients put their favorite images together to create a wall gallery. Wall galleries are a great way to bring a focus to a room, and really bring the energy and story of your family into the mood of your room. These guys came up with this awesome gallery, and I can’t wait to see it up on their wall! Their little one really brings a sweet joy to all she’s around…and I think they did a great job choosing images that really express this. Maybe it’s just me, but this grouping of images just makes me smile.

This image will also be going into the baby’s room as a large print. How fun! I LOVE IT.
